Every single individual on this planet wants to be happy. Right? Absolutely! There’s no exception! Being happy and wanting to be happy are two different things! Right? Absolutely!

Similarly we all pray for good health. Physically, mentally and emotionally. Maintaining good health and making the most of what we are blessed with is a choice not a chance! It is a decision, an action that brings results. This requires motivation- internal and external. Internal motivation is knowledge, understanding that taking care of our health by regular exercise and diet is crucial to being happy. With the way we feel and look!

Exercise reduces risk of cardiovascular diseases, obesity, diabetes, colon cancer etc. and increases our energy levels. Our anxiety levels are lowered, self-confidence is higher which enhances the overall mood. We all know the benefits of fitness and staying fit. However, many of us find it difficult to spare time for ourselves (which in turn, is for those around us!) to exercise regularly. We come up with excuses for not being motivated enough to schedule a workout routine in our daily activities.

Gyms or fitness centres offer a lot of choices and you can opt for anything that you enjoy the most. Swimming, dancing, yoga, hiking, playing a sport – choose your favourite, so it doesn’t feel like a chore! Have fun with it, make it convenient. If there’s not enough time to drive to the gym, do it in the comfort of your home.

Set a clear goal and once you accomplish that, reward yourself. Not treating yourself to ice-cream or a bar of chocolate! Maybe a movie or new exercise outfit. Stay consistent and persistent. Knowing what makes you tick and combining that with intention and action can achieve supreme results.

A key fact to keep in mind is to ensure that you do not get carried away and overdo it. If you launch a new hobby and it’s easy to fall into a trap of doing too much. The risk with that is you will soon lose interest and/or injure yourself. So it is best to have a structured regimen. Also, constantly remind yourself as to why you are doing this. Are you running a marathon for a charity? Is the cause close to your heart? Are you getting ready for your beach vacation? Once you have that in mind, you will enjoy doing it! Keep resetting new goals once you achieved success. Repeat.

To stay committed to fitness and fun, you might want to find workout buddies. A success story from my personal experience – our group (of about 4 couples) went hiking all through summer last year at the same preappointed place and not only had fun, but achieved what we desired. The group provides support, motivation and encouragement, in a friendly environment!  We enjoyed not only the process but the results as well! And while you are at it, you talk about topics other than fitness, which is a routine-breaker! In addition, you are your own cheerleaders too!  How cool is that!

Be happy! Be healthy! It’s a choice we must make! All your chores will be a piece of cake:)
