On Friday, October 18, 2019, more than 1,800 people gathered at the CAA Centre to celebrate the City of Brampton’s first ever community Garba.
This lively cultural event featured dancing, speeches and aarti, a prayer ceremony. Headliner Ravin Naik and opener Darshana Thaker took the stage with their energetic performances, while MC Jaymin Thakkar entertained the crowd throughout the festivities.
The City also collected non-perishable food donations on behalf of Knights Table, Seva Food Bank and Ste. Louise Outreach.
Garba celebrations feature traditional dance, music and Gujarati food, as part of the nine-day Navratri festival, which is recognized by Hindu communities around the world.
This event is part of Brampton’s Community Recognition Program, a series of cultural celebrations that the City has hosted throughout the year to honour Brampton’s diversity. These events are a great opportunity for residents to learn about other cultures and get to know the many communities that make up our city.
