Grand Celebration of India’s 71st Republic Day By Panorama India Panorama India celebrated the 71st India Republic Day on Sunday,
February 02, 2020 at the Pearson Convention Center, Brampton. The event united the local Indian community through celebrating the diversity of Indo-Canadians in Canada.
Overwhelming support for the event was garnered by community leaders, political dignitaries and sponsors, all of whom came together to celebrate India’s 71st Republic Day. Attendees included the Consul General of India in Toronto, Apoorva Srivastava, Premier Of Ontario, Doug Ford, MP. Ruby Sahota, MP Sonia Sidhu, MP Ramesh Sangha, MP Bob Soraya, MP Parm Gill. MP Rudy Cozetto, MPP Deepak Anand, Mayor of Brampton, Patrick Brown, Superintendent Rad Rose, and Bollywood celebrity music composer, Gurinder Seagal.
The program consisted of various community organizations of which 200 local performers were given the Panorama India platform. These groups showcased talent in all forms of artistic expression such as dancing, singing and drawing.
Opening ceremony commenced at 12 pm with Republic Day greetings and poignant messages from dignitaries. Panorama India Chair, Sumeeta Kohli welcomed everyone and recognized the political dignitaries, community leaders, and guests. She said “Unity in Diversity and building Indo Canada bi-lateral relations through culture is the prime objective of this celebration.”
Consul General of India, Hon. Apoorva Srivastava, enthusiastically addressed the crowd and brought the Republic Day greetings on behalf
of the President of India. The Consul General emphasized her appreciation for the Indian Diaspora in Toronto.
Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford addressed the crowd and talked about the strength of India and its democracy and growth. He recognized
Panorama India and for their hard work in bringing such an event to the Indo Canadians.
Mayor Patrick Brown reiterated his enthusiasm and support for India stating that his support and his long time attendance at Republic Day
MP Ruby Sahota and MP Sonia Sidhu were both present and shared greetings for the 71st Republic Day Celebration.
Panorama India celebrations highlighted the diversity of India through many dance and musical performances which included folk dance
competition, a drawing competition for children, food court and Vendor Bazaar with a variety of clothes, food, and jewelry booths.
The Folk Dance Competition was judged by noted dance luminaries of Toronto Parth Dani, Vaishali Panwar and Puja Amin. Eight cultural
organisations representing the various States of India participated with gusto. The Omkara Academy of Dance was adjudged as the winning team.
The Kids’ Drawing Competition had an overwhelming response this year with a great number of entries from children between the ages of
7-16 years old.
The extremely popular Panorama Idol singing contest received a tremendous representation from local artists during its preliminary
selection rounds on January 12 th , 2020.
Panorama India Idol Contest was judged by a panel of eminent personalities Manoshi Chatterjee, Deepak Gandhi and Prosenjit
Deogarhia and a celebrity finale judge, Bollywood music composer, singer and songwriter, Gurinder Seagal.
SBI Canada Bank sponsored the Panorama Idol 2020 contest and the finalists were chosen that day by an eager audience who casted their
vote for their favourite singer. The Junior Idol contest was won by Vedant Panwar and Pawan Rao was declared the winner in the Adult
Chair, Sumeeta Kohli wrapped up the evening and made special acknowledgments to SBI Canada Bank, The Host, Air India, Simplii
Financial, Easton Group of Companies, Hemdeep Singh Photography and vendors, cultural & community organizations, participants and
Bollywood music composer, singer and songwriter, Gurinder Seagal presented a special live performance for all the guests. Panorama India is hosting the India Day Festival & Grand Parade at Nathan Phillips Square on August 16th , 2020.
