SUPERSTAR AKSHAY KUMAR LEADS INDIA’S FIGHT AGAINST CORONAVIRUS CONTRIBUTING £2.5 MILLION FROM PERSONAL SAVINGS TO PRIME MINISTER MODI’S PM-CARES FUND
“ALL THAT MATTERS IS THE LIVES OF OUR PEOPLE” SAYS SUPERSTAR AKSHAY KUMAR, WHO LEADS INDIA’S FIGHT AGAINST CORONAVIRUS CONTRIBUTING £2.5 MILLION FROM PERSONAL SAVINGS TO PRIME MINISTER NARENDRA MODI’S PM-CARES FUND
Akshay Kumar has pledged to contribute £2.5mn (Rs 25 crores) to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s coronavirus relief fund to combat the coronavirus pandemic, becoming one of the biggest contributors from the international film fraternity. In an effort to bring the nation together he tweeted “This is that time when all that matters is the lives of our people. We need to do anything & everything it takes. Let’s save lives.”
Always one to lead by example use his cinema to both entertain and inspire positive action and social impact with films such as Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Pad Man or Mission Mangal, Akshay Kumar said during an interaction with Hindustan Times that he will always stand up for the safety of his Motherland, India.
“We call our country Bharat Maa (our Motherland). This contribution is in fact a gesture on behalf of my mother to our Motherland, Bharat Maa.
It’s important that I refer to my mother here because there is immense fear across the world for the impact this virus will have on our senior citizens and that they will be ignored and left to themselves during the coronavirus crisis. We cannot allow this to happen. My mother’s life is important and so is the lives of your parents. No matter who we are, trying to save every single life is critical right now and what I have done is just a small part towards this cause” he says.
Soon after the actor pledged to contribute Prime Minister Narendra Modi replied to his tweet and wrote, “Great gesture @AkshayKumar. Let’s keep donating for a healthier India.”
Since the lockdown, Akshay Kumar has been vocal in social media, urging his close to 100mn million fans to cooperate with the government during the 21-day nationwide lockdown.
