International Music Festival & Competition 2022 Awards

At a sold-out Awards Ceremony and Gala concert last night at the SMSV Cultural Centre in Markham, the International Music Festival and Competition (IMFC) has awarded aspiring and emerging singers and instrumentalists.

A jury panel of professional musicians and professors from the University of Toronto, York University, and the Royal Conservatory of Music listened to over 300 performances of pieces written for piano, violin, cello, guitar, voice, and woodwind instruments. While the majority of the competitors were from the Greater Toronto Area, there were also musicians from the Canadian provinces of Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan, as well as internationally, from the United States of America, Poland, Spain, and Armenia.

The jurors awarded 185 Gold, 60 Silver, and 18 Bronze medals, 80 trophies, and 11 scholarships. In addition, 67 competitors were recommended to the Ontario Provincial Music Competition and 21 competitors – to the Canadian National Music Competition. 

In the 2022 IMFC Concerto competition, First Prize was awarded to Vanessa Yu (piano), Max Wang-Tian (piano), Deniz Guliyeva (violin), Yi Leng (cello), and Hovsep Asatryan (saxophone).

The 2022 IMFC Grand Prize was awarded to pianist Sumi Kim.
